God's will for mankind...
The person who wants to know about God's will needs to first clear their mind of all preconceived notions on the subject. We will need to have an open attitude about what the Word of God actually states concerning the will of God. The instruction manual that the Almighty has given us (the Bible) outlines the important issues that God wants us to understand about His will and plan. There will be a few questions along the way and hopefully this article will answer most of them. Unfortunately, there will be questions that just can't be answered. This fact should not discourage us. There are issues that God just doesn't want us to know about at this time.
The most important tool we have to understanding God's will is prayer. The Almighty promises to answer all our prayers, (Matthew 21:21-22) but we must truly seek God's will and obey what we learn. We need to realize that the answer to our prayers could be "no" or “not at this time” depending on what is requested. God loves us, but in many instances is displeased with our actions. Seeking God's will can help us to overcome the actions that displeases the Great creator and then we can be blessed with answered prayers
In the beginning....
There is much confusion about when the beginning happened. Many claim that the beginning happened about 6000 thousand years ago and others state that the beginning happened millions of years ago! Who is correct? Well, maybe both groups are right...The book of John outlines one of these beginnings:
In the beginning there was the Word. The Word was with the God and the Word was God (the visible image of God). This one was with the God in the beginning, and through him (this image) it all came to be… life came to be, and this life was the light of all men. [Now] the light is shining in darkness, and He hasn’t been defeated by the darkness. (John 1:1-5) Septuagint
We need to understand that God exists in a realm of His own. As far as we can understand, no other beings
exist in this realm. God then creates the physical realm. This realm will eventually be the abode of all the celestial beings (angels). But because God is invisible (His realm
encompasses all other realm), He brings into existence the “Visible Image of Himself” (Logos). This image will now create and interact with the celestial beings (The Greek word logos is often rightly translated as word. However, logos implies a greater meaning than that; it means the expression of a thought. So, as God spoke, everything came into existence by means of the Visible Image of God). The physical realm is now the abode to God's image (Logos) and billions of celestial beings, who were created with life-inherent (not needing substances to exist). These beings were also given free choice. God created this vast physical realm for these celestial beings to enjoy and beautify. Unfortunately, one of these beings (Lucifer or Satan) was not satisfied with his position in this realm and rebelled. He began the process of governmental overthrow and convinced a third of the created beings to follow him! (Revelation 12:4) They refuse to obey God and to enjoy and beautify their assigned quadrant. This portion of the universe becomes chaotic and in decay. We need to fully understand that these beings who rebelled against God's will can not be put out of their misery. They will forever be in rebellion! They can not change, only if God decides to destroy them will their misery end. This rebellion ended the process of further celestial beings (angels) coming into existence. The circumstances that have occurred must have been extremely disappointing to God. A third of the created beings are now in misery and decay for eternity! How sad this is... God decides to take a different approach to creating celestial beings. (we realize this concept may be diffcult to accept, but it seems to be biblical)
Now the earth was (became) formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. (Genesis 1:2-3) Septuagint
Here is a new beginning. God restarts the process of creating celestial beings (God's will), but quite different from the first. The newly created beings will still have free choice, but not life-inherent. These beings are given a limited amount of time to accept the will of God. Those who refuse just cease to exist!
Man's Rebellion against God
Most know the story about Adam and Eve. These beings were created in the image of God, but what most don't realize is that this image (whatever is was) changed when man (male and female) rebelled against God's will. The results are the images we reflect today (body and attitude or soul).
Editor's note: The word image in Genesis 1:26 doesn't necessarily mean a likeness in appearance (though it can mean that). God encompasses all that exists, so we just don't know what appearance the Great Creator has! God gave physical beings (man and animal) the five senses (sight, taste, touch, smell and hearing), but only man was given "intelligence through God's Breath" (Spirit) that was breathed into him. (Genesis 2:7) The word image could also refer to a resemblance (in nature). God is the possessor of superior intelligence to His creation, just as man has superior intelligence over the animal kingdom and this just might be what the writer of Genesis intended to portray.
Then they heard the voice of The Almighty God, as He walked around in Paradise that afternoon; so Adam and his wife hid from the face of God Almighty, among the trees of Paradise. And The Almighty called to Adam, saying, ‘Where are you Adam?’ And [Adam] replied to God: ‘I heard Your voice as You were walking through Paradise, but I was afraid because of my nakedness, so I hid myself.’ Then God asked him: ‘If you haven’t eaten from the only tree that I commanded you not to eat from, then, who told you that you were naked?’ (Genesis 3:8-11) Septuagint
The human beings (Adam and Eve) rejected God's will (don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil) and the results were devastating to all human beings, even the nature of the animal kingdom changed! The great adversary of God ( Lucifer or Satan ) thought that he had successfully ended the will of God for human beings, but this really was just the beginning... God realized that the human being could rebel and made provisions for that occurrence. Those who wanted to be part of God's Kingdom would be saved from eternal death by accepting His Son's gift to mankind. Grace would be given to those who obeyed the will of God. Those who reject God's will also would be saved, but they are saved from the misery of rebellion to God! They are put out of their misery and just cease to exist...Hopefully, these individuals will be few.
Thousands of years have passed since man's first rebellion against God's will and man has continued on this path of destruction:
Now, learn this point from the story of the fig tree: When its young branches grow tender, and it starts putting out leaves, you know that summer is near. Likewise, when you see all of these things, know that he’s near… at the doors. I tell you the truth; That generation will not pass away, until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. ‘No one knows the day or the hour… not the messengers of heaven or the Son (just the Father). For, the same as it was in Noah's day, is how it will be when the Son of Man is then near. Why, [people] in those days (before the downpour), were feeding themselves and drinking, marrying and being taken in marriage, right up to the day when Noah entered the Chest… they were unaware ‘til [the day of] the downpour, and then it swept them all away. That’s how it will be also, when the Son of Man is nearby. ( Matthew 24:32-39 ) Septuagint
So, for those who want to be part of the Kingdom of God, we will need to accept God's will ( there is no other way ).
God's instructions about His will
God wants all human beings to come to repentance---
So, God isn’t slow with His promises (as some people think). Rather, He’s patient with you, because He doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed, and He’s allowing enough time for everyone to repent. ( 2 Peter 3:9 )
Jesus the Anointed---And Jesus went on to say, ‘I’m the bread of life, and whoever comes to me won’t ever get hungry; and he who believes in me won’t ever get thirsty. But I tell you this: You’ve seen me, yet you still don’t believe. Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I won’t reject anyone who comes to me, because I didn’t come to do my will, but [to do] the will of the One who sent me. ‘This is what the will of the One who sent me is: That I shouldn’t destroy anything He has given me; but rather, that I should resurrect it on the Last Day. This is what my Father’s will is: That everyone who pays close attention to the Son and believes in him should have life in the age, and I will resurrect him on the Last Day.’ ( John 6:35:40 ) Septuagint
This statement seems to imply that what Jesus said and did was the will of God.
Editor's note: As we study the words of Jesus, we need to be careful that the references we use are actually the words of Jesus and not the thoughts of a translator. ( see the link: spurious passages )
Give thanks for all things---Now brothers ( and sisters ); We’re asking you to give [special] recognition to those who are working so hard among you by presiding over you in the Lord, and counseling you. Give them extraordinary loving consideration because of what they’re doing, and be at peace with each other! We also urge you brothers to reprimand the disorderly, to comfort the depressed, to support the weak, and to be patient with everyone. Also, see to it that no one is trying to get even with anyone else over bad things… always search for what’s best for each other and for everyone else! Always be rejoicing, praying constantly, and giving thanks for everything, because this is God's will for you, in the Anointed Jesus! ( I Thessalonians 5:12-18 ) Septuagint
Do not be conformed to this world and its ways---Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, His good, pleasing and perfect will. ( Romans 12:2 )
Family---And [Jesus] replied: ‘Didn’t you read that the One who created them long ago made them male and female, and said, This is the reason why a man will leave his father and mother and stick to his wife, because the two will be one flesh? So, they are no longer two, but one flesh! And what God has put together under the same yoke shouldn’t be separated by any man.’ (Matthew 19:4-6) Septuagint
Husbands; Love your wives as the Anointed One loved the congregation and gave himself up to make it holy. ( Ephesians 5:25 )
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. ( Colossians 3:18 )
Editor's note: The word submit has been misunderstood by most men. It does not mean that everything a man would want a woman to do, she must do! The intend of the Greek word would be to change an unGodly course or to be realigned with God. It does not give men complete authority over women!
You children; Obey your parents in the Lord, because this is righteous. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ for this is the first Commandment that came with a promise, ‘so things will go well for you and you can live on the earth for a long time.’ Fathers; Don’t frustrate your children, but raise them with discipline and put the mind of the Lord in them. ( Ephesians 6:1-4 )
Flee from sexual immorality---It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control their own body in a way that is Holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God. (I Thessalonians 4:3-5 ) So God gave them the thing that their hearts desired… uncleanness to dishonor their bodies. Yes, they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and they started worshiping and serving things that were created rather than the One who created them, who is praised through the ages. May it be. And this is why God abandoned them to their dishonorable passions, for their females changed the natural use of themselves into something that’s unnatural, and the same is true of their males; for they left the natural use of females and started burning in their lust toward each other – males with males – doing what is indecent and receiving the type of reward they deserve for such wrongdoing. ( Romans 1:24-27 )
Do not worry about life---No one can slave for two masters; you won’t care for one and love the other, or you’ll stick with that one, and the other despise. You can’t slave for God and for wealth. This is why I tell you not to worry, about your lives and the things that you eat and drink… or about your bodies and what you will wear. Isn’t life more important than food, and [your] body more important than clothes? ‘Pay attention to the birds in the sky; for they plant no seeds nor [do they] harvest, or put [their things] into stores; yet your Father in heaven also feeds them. And are you not [greater than] they are? So, which of you can through worry, can add a smidgen to your life? ‘When it comes to clothes, why [should you] worry? Learn from the lilies in the field, and from the way that they grow. For, they don’t work or make cloth; but I tell you this: Not even Solomon in all of his glory, was dressed as well as are they. So, if God so well dresses plants in the fields (which are here today and thrown in the oven tomorrow), wouldn’t He rather clothe you… you with so little faith? ‘So, never be worried and ask, What will we eat; what will we drink; and what will we wear? For, these are the things that the nations chase after. But your Father in heaven already knows, that you need all these things. ‘Put the Kingdom and righteousness in the first place, then all these things will be given to you. So, don’t be worried about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have its own worries, and each day will have its own badness. ( Matthew 6:25-34 )
Study the Word of God---Everyone who wants to worship God (through the Anointed Jesus) will also be persecuted, because wicked and deceitful men will get worse and worse, misleading and being misled. As for you; Stick with the things that you’ve learned and were convinced to believe in.. and remember who you learned them from. (God) Why, you’ve been familiar with the Holy Writings since you were a child. And they can make you wise enough to save you, through belief in the Anointed Jesus. For, all the Scriptures are inspired by God and are good for teaching, for correcting, for setting things straight, and for providing righteous discipline. They qualify a man of God and provide him with whatever he needs to do all sorts of good work. ( 2 Timothy 3:12-17 ) Septuagint
Editor's note: As we study the Bible we need to be aware that men have added or subtracted from these writings! We need to be careful in accepting thoughts or writings that are not from God. We need to be aware that we have a great adversary who is trying to deceive us in our quest to obey God. ( see the link: spurious passages )
